Without organized, sustained, and accessible means for confronting the stigma of mental health needs of the Black community, the damaging effects of trauma will endure and continue to be handed down from one generation to the next. Taraji P. Henson founded Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, named for her father, to face this reality with intention and be a part of a movement to destigmatize mental health in the black community.
BLHF needed a rebrand that reflected the scope of their mission and the dedication of their organization. We dove in, developing a visual identity soulful and focused on the outcome deserved – JOY.
The Logomark
Visualizing Generations of Trauma & Healing
Constructed to embody a cycle being broken, the mark is built to visualize not just wholeness and all its layers but also to convey the journey to joy. The layers remind us of the many generations that led us to this moment, to this searching and reclamation of our story as black people in search of healing, wholeness and joy.
The Mission
Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation is dedicated to your health from the head down. As an organization, their mission is to offer our community the tools and resources needed to help break the silence and stigma that keeps so many from asking for and receiving the help they need. From who the organization collaborates with, to how they show up in the community, all the way to the content and programs created, BLHF wants to help every individual find the pathway to their peace, their freedom, their wellbeing. Their mission is helping you choose your joy over everything.
